Your Boiler Failed. Here Is What Happens Next.
When your boiler stops working in the middle of winter, every hour counts. Your home temperature drops, your pipes are at risk of freezing, and your family is uncomfortable. We understand the urgency, and our entire emergency process is designed to get you back to heat as fast as possible.
We have been handling emergency boiler replacements on Long Island since 1979. We stock the most common residential boiler models at our Melville location so we do not have to wait for a distributor to open or a delivery truck to arrive. In many cases, we can assess your system, provide a price, and have a new boiler running in your home within the same day.
Same-Day Response
Call us and a technician is dispatched to your home. We prioritize emergency calls and aim to be on-site within hours, not days.
Boilers in Stock
We maintain inventory of common residential boiler models so we can install immediately without waiting on supply chain delays.
Financing Available
An emergency replacement is never in the budget. We offer financing so you can get heat now and pay over time. No one should freeze waiting for payday.
Warning Signs Your Boiler Is About to Fail
Some boiler failures happen suddenly, but many show warning signs in the days or weeks beforehand. If you notice any of the following, call us before you lose heat entirely.
Strange Noises
Banging, clanking, whistling, or rumbling sounds that are new or getting louder. These often indicate failing components or dangerous pressure issues.
Water Leaking
Any visible water around the base of the boiler, dripping from pipes, or puddles forming nearby. Leaks can indicate a cracked heat exchanger or corroded connections.
Uneven Heating
Some rooms are warm while others stay cold. This can mean the boiler is losing capacity and can no longer heat your home adequately.
Frequent Cycling
The boiler turns on and off repeatedly without maintaining temperature. This short-cycling stresses components and leads to complete failure.
Yellow or Flickering Flame
A gas boiler flame should be steady and blue. A yellow, orange, or flickering flame indicates incomplete combustion and can produce carbon monoxide. Treat this as an emergency.
Boiler Is 20+ Years Old
Boilers over 20 years old are operating on borrowed time. Parts become harder to find, efficiency drops, and sudden failure becomes increasingly likely.
What to Do While Waiting for Your Emergency Replacement
If your boiler has already stopped working and you are waiting for our team to arrive, take these steps to protect your home and family.
Do This
- Let faucets drip slightly to prevent pipes from freezing
- Open cabinet doors under sinks to expose pipes to warmer room air
- Use portable electric space heaters in occupied rooms (keep away from curtains and furniture)
- Close doors to unused rooms to concentrate heat where you need it
- If temperatures are dangerously low, consider draining the system to prevent burst pipes
Do Not Do This
- Never use your oven, stove, or grill to heat your home (carbon monoxide risk)
- Do not use a generator indoors or in the garage
- Do not attempt to repair the boiler yourself, especially gas connections
- Do not ignore a gas smell. Leave the house immediately and call 911, then National Grid at 1-800-490-0045
Our Emergency Replacement Process
We have streamlined our emergency process to minimize the time between your call and your heat coming back on. Here is exactly what happens.
Call Us: (631) 860-6681
Tell us what is happening with your boiler. We will ask a few quick questions about your system type, fuel source, and home size so we can prepare before we arrive.
On-Site Assessment (Same Day)
A technician arrives at your home, inspects the boiler, and determines whether a repair is possible or if full replacement is needed. We give you an honest answer, not a sales pitch.
Upfront Pricing with No Surprises
You receive a written price for the replacement before any work begins. We explain your options clearly: standard efficiency vs. high-efficiency, same model vs. upgrade. No hidden fees and no pressure.
Old Boiler Removal
We disconnect and remove the failed boiler, haul it away, and prepare the area for the new unit. We protect your floors and walls throughout the process.
New Boiler Installation
The new boiler is set in place, connected to your existing piping, fuel supply, and venting. We connect the thermostat, fill and bleed the system, and fire it up.
Testing, Walkthrough, and Cleanup
We verify every zone is heating properly, check for leaks, test safety controls, and walk you through your new system. We clean up completely and take all debris with us. Your heat is back.
Most emergency replacements are completed within a single day. Complex installations or systems requiring special-order equipment may take an additional day, but we will let you know upfront and help you stay warm in the interim.
Emergency Replacement Costs
We know an unexpected boiler failure is stressful, and the last thing you need is financial uncertainty on top of it. Here is what emergency replacements typically cost on Long Island.
Emergency Boiler Replacement Costs (Installed)
*We do not charge an emergency premium or after-hours surcharge for boiler replacements. The price you receive is the price you pay. Financing available for all emergency replacements. Visit our cost guide for detailed pricing by system type.
Financing for Emergency Replacements
We understand that a sudden boiler failure is a financial burden you were not planning for. We offer financing options so you can get your heat restored immediately and pay over time rather than delaying replacement in the middle of winter. No one should have to choose between their safety and their budget.
We also help you apply for available National Grid and PSEG Long Island rebates on qualifying high-efficiency units, which can offset a meaningful portion of the cost even on an emergency timeline.
When Emergency Repair Is Not Enough
Not every boiler failure requires a full replacement. If the problem is a failed circulator pump, a bad thermostat, or a faulty zone valve, a repair may get you back up and running in a few hours. We will always give you an honest assessment.
However, there are situations where repair is not the right call, even in an emergency. If your boiler has a cracked heat exchanger, the unit cannot be safely repaired. If it is 20 years old or older and has been needing increasingly frequent repairs, investing in another repair is throwing money at a system that will fail again soon. If the repair cost exceeds 50% of the price of a new boiler, replacement is the smarter financial decision.
We will walk you through the options honestly. If a $300 repair will get you through the winter safely, we will tell you. If the boiler is done, we will tell you that too. For a more detailed breakdown, visit our repair vs. replace guide.
Pipe Freeze Prevention During a Boiler Failure
On Long Island, the biggest risk during a boiler failure is frozen pipes. When temperatures drop below freezing and your heat is off, the water in your pipes, radiators, and the boiler itself can freeze, expand, and burst. A burst pipe can cause thousands of dollars in water damage on top of the boiler replacement cost.
If your boiler has failed and temperatures are below freezing, take immediate action. Keep all faucets dripping slightly to maintain water flow. Open cabinet doors under sinks, especially on exterior walls. Use portable heaters in areas with exposed plumbing. If temperatures are going to stay well below freezing for an extended period and we cannot get to you within a few hours, consider having a plumber drain the system as a precaution.
When we arrive for an emergency replacement, we always inspect for frozen or burst pipes before installing the new boiler. If we find damage, we address it as part of the project so you are not left with hidden problems after the new system is running.
Boiler Models We Stock for Emergency Service
We maintain inventory of the most commonly installed residential boiler models on Long Island so we can offer same-day or next-day emergency replacement. These are the brands and models we typically have on hand.
Weil-McLain is the most widely installed boiler brand on Long Island, and we stock their ECO, Ultra, and CGa series for gas, as well as the SGO for oil and EG for steam. Burnham Alpine and ESC models are also in regular stock. For wall-mounted high-efficiency options, we carry Navien NCB-E combi boilers and NHB heating-only models, along with Bosch Greenstar units. We also stock Peerless, Buderus, and New Yorker models for direct replacements.
If your home has an older or less common boiler that we do not have in stock, we can typically source it from our distributor network within 24 hours. We will let you know the timeline upfront.
